Road Repairs Updates

Updates News 18th November 2011

ROAD REPARING SCHEDULE

The long awaited road repairs will commence Monday 21st November.  Work will start at 19.00 hours through the night and should have finished by 06.00 hours.  This will continue for 5 nights, by which time all of the scheduled resurfacing work will have been completed.  Following on from this work will be the repairs to the existing ‘joints’ in the surfaces and the re-instatement of the yellow lines that have just been painted!!

Obviously whilst this work is happening there will be some stretches of road that will not be passable and to ensure that business can carry on as usual for those companies who work through the night, traffic management arrangements will be in place.  This could mean that traffic will be travelling the wrong way around Chartwell Road, and although this will be clearly indicated on the night, extra care will be needed by drivers of all vehicles.

Please click here to view the map
of the park provided by WSCC indicating the proposed work schedule.  Monday night is shown as 1, Tuesday night as 2 etc., but of course even the best made plans can be upset by breakdowns, the weather or just unknown gremlins, so whilst every effort will be made to stick to the schedule, the plan may be subject to some last minute changes.

Cooperation from all business park companies is requested during this time and having spoken direct with the contractor I am confident that there will be minimal disruption.

If any issues do arise please call me on the usual number, 07584503729, leaving a message and I will get back to you.

Lancing Business Park Highways

Following the scheduled meeting with Pieter Montyn, West Sussex County Council (WSCC) Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, and Tony Toynton, WSCC Director for Communities and Infrastructure, that took place on Thursday 29th September, I am able to provide this update concerning the roads on Lancing Business Park.

Following a detailed survey by WSCC highways, the long awaited repairs to the roads will commence in January 2012.  Some areas have been identified that require resurfacing; some that require machine laid patching; and some that require joint treatment.  A map is provided depicting the various areas although please note this is indicative only at this stage and may alter by January.  The work will take several weeks to complete and it is likely that there will be some disruption during this period where roads may have to be closed.  WSCC will be working closely with LBP in order to provide as much information as possible so that advanced notice can be given to businesses.  The level of repair falls short of expectations but are never the less quite extensive, and we have been assured that they will resolve the current issues that have been all too evident for so long.

More information has now been received concerning the resurfacing work that had been promised last year.  Most of you are aware that we were expecting the roads to be resurfaced in the summer of 2010, and although the gas works interrupted plans meaning that the work could not go ahead as anticipated, there was a belief that this would simply be a delay and resurfacing work would commence immediately after the new gas main had been laid. Information was then received suggesting that WSCC had a reduced budget for 2011 and a full resurface could not be undertaken.  The question on most minds was why couldn’t the money be ‘slipped’ to the next financial year?   It would appear that the repair budget from WSCC was being supplemented by additional funds made available via a central government regeneration budget.  This budget was a one off provision and the strict terms of use dictated that once an allocation had been accepted, the work had to be completed within that financial year otherwise the funds were withdrawn by and returned to central government.  Consequently the additional money that was available through this means was lost for this project and could not be carried forward. Unsurprisingly no similar spare funds were available from government for 2011/12!

Your committee has continually lobbied for road improvements and WSCC are now most definitely aware of the important role that this business park plays in the local and indeed national economy.

Your committee are continuing to push West Sussex County Council Highways in providing details of any resurfacing or repair work on the roads.

The recently appointed Chairman of West Sussex County Council Highways committee is visited the park on Friday 8th July for a fact finding exercise. The reports from this visit are available for download here.
